Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid
Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid (EDTA) is a chelating agent commonly used in molecular biology buffers. It binds divalent metal ions such as Mg²⁺ and Ca²⁺, which are required cofactors for nucleases. By sequestering these ions, EDTA helps protect DNA and RNA from enzymatic degradation, improves nucleic acid stability, and enhances the reliability of electrophoresis and other downstream molecular biology applications.
